Blended families

The term ‘blended families’ is a misnomer of sorts. When two families come together they never really blend. The goal is to have a stasis of sorts with each bio-parent having primary leadership of their own children and the step parent’s input considered. Resentment festers when a step parent gets involved at a primary level with discipline. It’s important that the parent and step privately discuss any differences and present a unified front – with the bio parent doing the talking. In this way the fluid family system can move to a stable position.
