“How can I get him to think the way I think,
Or do just what I’d do?
(I will remember, day to day,
My love, that I’m not you.)”
When we start a relationship we are usually ecstatic that we have found someone who ‘get’s us’. We often enjoy the same activities and seem to be on the same wavelength, wanting to please each other so this heady feeling can continue. We dance together smoothly. As time goes on there are often missteps where we feel out of synch. That is because we are not really One but two. And frustrations come often of noticing this fact. When we can know ourselves enough to appreciate and have empathy for the other’s differences, their mindset and individuality and love them regardless … this is when we can love.
